3 Benefits of Choosing a Climate-Controlled Storage Unit

A climate-controlled storage facility can help individuals with safely storing their items so that they will avoid some common forms of damage. Unfortunately, people that are in the process of evaluating their storage unit options might not be completely aware of the ways that a climate-controlled unit will be superior to a more standard unit.

1. Better Interior Air Quality

The air quality in the storage unit can be an important factor that is often overlooked. However, you will find that a storage unit with a high dust content in the air can be extremely unpleasant for you to spend time working in it. Additionally, the dust could settle on the items that you are trying to store in the unit and eventually cause avoidable deterioration. Climate-controlled storage units will utilize elaborate air filtration systems to remove as much of the dust as possible from the air that is circulating in the units.

2. Reduced Risk of Moisture Damage

Moisture is another common threat for items that are being stored. While the storage unit will protect the items from being damaged by rain or other precipitation, it can still be possible for moisture damage to occur as a result of condensation collecting on the items in the unit. Over time, this could lead to mold growing on the items, fabrics or other woods rotting and metal corroding. These factors are compounded by the presence of electronic components as condensation can rapidly corrode the internal components of electronic devices.

Climate-controlled units will have humidity control systems in place that will keep the moisture level within the desired range. For those that are unsure as to the humidity level that is appropriate for the items they are storing, some of these facilities can help to provide a guide for the recommended humidity levels for commonly stored items.

3. Improved Security

Security is always a concern for those evaluating storage facilities, which is understandable given that potentially valuable items will be stored and the owner will be unable to monitor them. Climate-controlled facilities can often provide more comprehensive security since these units are usually in a fully enclosed building. Also, there is likely to be a worker or security guard that controls access to the building. In contrast, standard storage facilities may have little more than a fence separating the storage units from the public. This could lead to individuals climbing the fence to break into or otherwise vandalize the storage units.

About Me

Storing A Better Way Have you ever thought about how much you needed to store on a regular basis? About six months ago, I became absolutely overwhelmed with the sight of how much we had in our basement. It was really discouraging to see, but before we knew it, we were concerned about animals and things starting on fire. I knew that we had to repack everything and get rid of some stuff, just to be able to make things right. I learned the art of moving and storage, and I wanted to teach other people too. Check out this blog to find out how you can store a little smarter.
