Moving Soon? Follow These Tips For Packing And Preparation

As your moving day gets closer to happening, you'll be looking to get things packed and prepared for the big day. Here are some helpful tips that you may not think of doing.

Pack Boxes To The Top

Picking the right sized box is crucial to ensuring that your items do not break when being moved to your new place. A common mistake people make is picking the wrong box and not packing it to the top. A box that is packed correctly is not going to have any gaps between the top of the items and the cardboard, which leaves an open space where the box can collapse from the weight of the box on top of it. This can ruin those perfectly stacked boxes in the back of the moving truck.

Make sure that those boxes are packed tightly to prevent things from breaking. If the box is too heavy before it is packed to the top, try switching to a smaller box or filling the rest of the box with something light. For instance, use bed sheets or extra bubble wrap that you can't return.

Disassemble Furniture The Day Before

Another problem people have when moving is not anticipating how long it takes to be prepared. This is especially true when it comes to disassembling furniture that you need to move, which can cause your movers to wait around until everything is ready.

This is common with bed frames that have been tightly screwed together, and are often the last thing to disassemble since you used your bed the night before. It can also happen with items that are too big and heavy to fit through a door, such as a recliner couch with individual sections that are bolted together.

Save yourself the stress on your moving day, even if it means sleeping with the mattress on the floor. Disassemble that furniture the day before.

Pack An Essentials Box

While it may make sense at first to pack each room up individually, that can leave you scrambling the day you move in to find your essential items. Make sure to pack a box of what you need your first night at your new place. Think of things like toothbrushes, contact solution, medications, phone chargers, or anything else that you frequently use. It will help make things less stressful if you do not get everything unpacked by the end of the first day.

About Me

Storing A Better Way Have you ever thought about how much you needed to store on a regular basis? About six months ago, I became absolutely overwhelmed with the sight of how much we had in our basement. It was really discouraging to see, but before we knew it, we were concerned about animals and things starting on fire. I knew that we had to repack everything and get rid of some stuff, just to be able to make things right. I learned the art of moving and storage, and I wanted to teach other people too. Check out this blog to find out how you can store a little smarter.
